GRID Alternatives Returns to Its First Solar Project After 20 Years

GRID Alternatives has returned to the San Carlos, California, home where it installed its first-ever solar system 20 years ago. Bob and Lorrayne Murphy were the organization’s first clients, helping launch its mission of expanding solar access to underserved communities.
GRID recently upgraded the original installation, marking two decades of continued clean-energy impact. Since its founding, the organization has expanded significantly, serving more than 38,000 households and generating over $887 million in lifetime energy savings for historically underserved communities. BMO, a long-term GRID partner, supported the milestone project and continues to fund initiatives focused on clean-energy access, resilience and workforce development.
85-MW Solar Tracker Project Comes Online in Oklahoma

The 85-MW Choctaw Fields Solar Project has entered commercial operation in Oklahoma. Developed and completed by Tango Holdings, a joint venture between Savion Equity and Ares Infrastructure Equity, the project uses single-axis tracking technology. Cargill has signed a long-term virtual power purchase agreement covering the facility’s full solar generation.
Choctaw Fields is part of a broader five-project portfolio created through the joint venture announced in July 2025, with the combined portfolio totaling 496 MW. All five projects have now reached commercial operation. Savion developed the facilities and will continue as a project-managing joint venture member, while Shell Renewable Asset Management International handles ongoing asset management.
Georgia Power Installs 512-MWh BESS at Robins Air Force Base
Georgia Power has completed a 512-MWh battery energy storage system at Robins Air Force Base in Warner Robins, Georgia. The four-hour facility has a power capacity of 128 MW and is designed to operate alongside the nearby Robins Solar Facility, improving grid flexibility and energy resilience.
Burns & McDonnell served as the engineering, procurement and construction contractor and completed the project on schedule. The Robins Battery Facility is one of four battery storage projects being developed by Georgia Power. The utility has already completed facilities in Cherokee and Lowndes counties totaling 579.5 MW and is nearing completion of another 57.5-MW facility in Floyd County.
Two New Jersey Properties Add 2 MW of Rooftop Solar

High Street Logistics Properties has completed two rooftop community solar projects at 3 and 5 Finderne Avenue in Bridgewater, New Jersey. Together, the installations provide 2 MW of solar capacity across approximately 204,000 square feet of rooftop space.
SolarKal developed the projects and has worked with High Street since 2021 to identify and advance solar opportunities across its property portfolio. The projects participate in New Jersey’s Community Solar Energy Program, allowing low- and moderate-income households to benefit from locally generated renewable electricity and potential utility bill savings. High Street is also developing two additional Illinois community solar projects totaling 6 MW, while using solar to support its broader net-zero strategy.
Milwaukee Unveils Its Largest Solar Project

Milwaukee has unveiled its largest solar installation, a 4.6-MW expansion at a former city landfill near Mitchell International Airport. The addition increases the site’s total solar capacity to 6.85 MW, building on a 2.2-MW array completed in 2021.
We Energies owns the site, while SunVest engineered and constructed the expansion through the utility’s Renewable Pathway Program. Because the project sits on a capped landfill adjacent to an airport, the development required specialized engineering and coordination with the Air National Guard. SunVest used a nonpenetrating, ballasted racking system that relies on weight rather than ground anchors, protecting the landfill cap while enabling the solar expansion.

German Solar Company BSH Files for Insolvency

German solar installation company BSH GmbH & Co. KG has filed for insolvency proceedings with the Schweinfurt district court, adding to recent financial pressure across Germany’s solar sector. The Bad Königshofen-based company was founded in 2004 and has worked across photovoltaics, solar thermal systems, heating and plumbing.
BSH reported reaching 25,000 installed solar systems in 2025. However, challenging conditions in the residential solar market had already affected the business, with the company reportedly cutting around 60 jobs in autumn 2025 because of weaker private-customer demand. The court has appointed Alexander Zarzitzky as provisional insolvency administrator.
Zelestra and Salzgitter Sign German Solar-Plus-Storage PPA

Zelestra and German steelmaker Salzgitter Flachstahl have signed a long-term power purchase agreement covering two new hybrid solar-plus-storage projects in Germany.
The portfolio will combine 147 MW of solar capacity with 79 MW/237 MWh of battery storage across projects in Brandenburg and Thuringia. Zelestra will build, own and operate the facilities, while Salzgitter will purchase the solar electricity and control the battery systems. The batteries will be charged exclusively using surplus solar generation. The agreement is designed to support Salzgitter’s low-carbon steel production by matching renewable electricity supply more closely with industrial demand. Both companies describe it as their first hybrid PPA in Germany.
Fortis Partners With Schletter on 300-MW-Plus European Projects

Netherlands-based independent power producer Fortis Energy has partnered with German mounting-system manufacturer Schletter Group to support more than 300 MW of solar-plus-storage projects across Europe. The projects are expected to materialize from 2027, with the companies working together on site-specific structural designs, delivery schedules and installation planning.
Schletter will supply photovoltaic mounting systems for the portfolio, while the partnership will cover both solar generation and integrated battery storage projects. The agreement reflects the increasing deployment of hybrid renewable projects across European markets, where combining solar with batteries can help address grid constraints and improve the flexibility of renewable generation.
Europe’s Solar Boom Creates Growing Need for Storage

Europe’s rapid solar expansion is creating new challenges for the electricity system as generation increasingly exceeds demand during sunny periods. Solar has become a major source of European electricity during summer months, supported by falling technology costs, government incentives and continued growth in rooftop and utility-scale installations.
However, high solar output can push wholesale electricity prices to zero or below, reducing revenues for some renewable generators. Industry experts point to battery storage, flexible electricity demand and stronger grids as key solutions. Storage can shift excess daytime solar generation to periods of higher demand, while improved transmission infrastructure can move electricity from areas with surplus generation to locations where it is needed.
