Tesla Plans $10.1 Billion Solar Manufacturing Plant in Texas

Tesla has submitted plans for a $10.1 billion vertically integrated solar manufacturing campus in Fort Bend County, Texas. Called “Project Crystal Sun,” the proposed facility would occupy approximately 3,050 acres near Richmond and represents Tesla’s largest proposed single-site manufacturing investment. The project would cover the solar supply chain from ingot and wafer production through cell manufacturing and module production. Around $8.6 billion would be invested in manufacturing equipment, while the project could create nearly 9,700 permanent jobs and more than 1,100 construction jobs. Construction is targeted for 2026–2028, with commercial production expected in 2029.
Kinematics Acquires RenuTrak to Expand Solar Tracker Repowering Services
Kinematics has expanded its solar tracker repowering business by acquiring RenuTrak, an Arizona-based company specializing in repowering single-axis tracker projects. The acquisition strengthens Kinematics’ capabilities in extending the operational life and performance of existing utility-scale solar installations. As the U.S. solar fleet continues to mature, tracker repowering is becoming increasingly important for improving reliability, efficiency and energy production without completely replacing existing solar projects. Sonoma State University Powers On Solar Carports and Battery Storage

TotalEnergies has completed a 4.1-MW solar and 1.55-MWh battery storage project at Sonoma State University in California. The solar carports cover five campus parking lots and are expected to produce more than 7.9 million kWh of clean electricity during the first year. The battery system is projected to save the university more than $5 million in utility costs over five years and includes microgrid-ready capabilities to maintain critical operations during Public Safety Power Shutoffs. The project was delivered through a power purchase agreement, allowing the university to avoid upfront capital costs while TotalEnergies finances, operates and maintains the system.

Germany Open to Back Indonesia’s 100-GW Solar Ambition

Germany has indicated it is open to supporting Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto’s ambitious plan to develop 100 GW of solar power. Indonesia aims to dramatically expand solar generation as part of its strategy to strengthen energy independence, reduce emissions and diversify its electricity mix. The initiative represents a major potential transformation for Indonesia, which currently has comparatively limited installed solar capacity. German support could provide technical expertise, financing, technology and project-development capabilities. German Energy Prices Surge During Solar Eclipse
Germany experienced a sharp increase in electricity prices around the August 12 solar eclipse, highlighting the country’s growing reliance on solar generation. The eclipse temporarily reduced available solar output during an evening period when electricity demand remained significant. Wholesale electricity prices for some 15-minute periods reportedly exceeded €400 per MWh, more than double comparable prices. Solar therefore played an important role in meeting higher daytime electricity demand and supporting grid stability. However, the challenge becomes more significant after sunset, when solar generation disappears while electricity demand can remain elevated. Construction Starts on 400-MWh Heinersbrück GridBattery in Germany

Fluence and LEAG Clean Power have begun construction of the 400-MWh Heinersbrück GridBattery in eastern Germany. The large-scale battery storage project will be co-located with wind and solar generation on recultivated former mining land. Fluence will provide its Smartstack energy-storage technology and is responsible for the project’s design, supply and construction. Scheduled for completion in 2027, the facility will help store surplus renewable electricity and provide greater flexibility and security to Germany’s power system.
