Private equity giant KKR has agreed to acquire EDF Power Solutions’ North American renewable energy business, including its operations and assets across the United States and Canada.

The transaction covers approximately 5.6 GW of operating renewable assets and a substantial development pipeline spanning solar, wind, battery storage and EV charging infrastructure. The acquisition strengthens KKR’s position as a major renewable infrastructure investor, while EDF will use the proceeds to support investments in France’s nuclear fleet and new reactor construction. The deal reflects continued investor confidence in long-term renewable energy despite policy uncertainty and evolving market conditions.

ITC settles Shoals–Voltage patent dispute

The U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC) has concluded the patent dispute between Shoals Technologies and Voltage regarding electrical balance-of-system technology used in utility-scale solar projects. The settlement resolves allegations surrounding patented voltage monitoring and electrical connection technologies without prolonged litigation.

By ending the dispute, both companies can redirect attention toward product innovation and customer support rather than legal proceedings. The outcome also highlights the increasing importance of protecting intellectual property as the solar industry expands and competition intensifies. Strong patent enforcement remains critical for encouraging innovation and maintaining fair competition within the rapidly growing U.S. solar equipment market.

Renewable America builds 1.9-MW solar portfolio for California nut company

Renewable America has completed a 1.9-MW distributed solar portfolio for a California-based nut processing company, helping the customer lower electricity costs while improving energy sustainability.

The multi-site project supplies clean electricity to manufacturing operations, reducing dependence on grid power and supporting California’s decarbonization goals. The installation demonstrates growing demand for commercial and industrial (C&I) solar as businesses seek protection from rising electricity prices and meet ESG commitments. Renewable America continues to expand its distributed generation portfolio by delivering customized solar solutions for agricultural and industrial customers throughout California, strengthening resilience and long-term operational savings.

WoodMac: Federal changes halted gigawatts of renewable energy development in 2025

According to Wood Mackenzie, changes in U.S. federal policy during 2025 delayed or halted several gigawatts of renewable energy development, creating uncertainty across the solar and storage industries. Developers postponed investments as they evaluated revised tax incentives, permitting requirements and regulatory changes affecting project economics.

The report warns that prolonged policy uncertainty could slow renewable deployment, reduce private investment and delay grid modernization efforts. While long-term electricity demand remains strong—driven by data centres, electrification and manufacturing—the pace of future renewable expansion will depend heavily on stable government policies and predictable market conditions.
