Virginia Governor Announces MSolar Manufacturing in Shenandoah

Virginia Governor Abigail Spanberger announced that MSolar Manufacturing will invest $23.775 million into a 56,000-sq-ft warehouse in Mount Jackson, Virginia. The company plans to produce HJT solar panels, solar glass, and cells, targeting over half a million panels annually — estimated at sub-250 MW capacity. The facility is projected to create 150 local jobs. However, MSolar has limited industry experience, with its U.S. background largely confined to a failed 2021 solar project in Virginia. Panel production is expected to begin in August 2026.
Why Solar EPCs Became Construction's Unlikely AI Pioneers
Solar engineering, procurement, and construction firms have adopted automated construction monitoring more quickly than any other segment of the construction economy. Three structural conditions make manual verification mathematically impossible at utility-scale solar sites: geographic scale exceeding thousands of acres, the highly repetitive nature of solar components enabling AI anomaly detection, and intense schedule pressure tied to financial milestones like tax equity deadlines and interconnection windows. These same conditions are now emerging in data centers, battery storage, and HVDC transmission, making solar EPCs a leading indicator for AI adoption across the broader infrastructure industry.
T1 Energy to Acquire KORE Power for $32 Million


T1 Energy has entered an agreement to acquire KORE Power, a battery energy storage system company, for $32 million in equity, cash, and assumed debt, with the deal expected to close by end of June 2026. T1 Energy, formerly known as FREYR, currently operates a solar panel assembly facility near Dallas and is building a solar cell manufacturing facility near Austin.
The strategic centerpiece of the acquisition is KORE's NRI division, which has deployed over 1,000 BESS projects worldwide. T1 plans to rebrand KORE Power as T1 NRI following the close.
Nextpower Sues GameChange Energy for Patent Infringement


Nextpower has filed a lawsuit against GameChange Energy in the U.S. District Court for the District of Delaware, alleging infringement of three patents — two covering self-powered components used in Nextpower's NX Horizon single-axis trackers (issued in 2022 and 2024), and one covering its TrueCapture tracker software. Nextpower alleges GameChange's Genius Tracker system uses similar technologies and is seeking damages amounting to triple the actual cost of sales. GameChange denied all allegations, stating its Genius Tracker was independently developed and vowed to defend itself vigorously.
SEG Solar Expanding with Third Texas Facility

SEG Solar has announced plans for a third solar panel assembly facility in Texas, a 4.6-GW plant that will bring the company's total U.S. module manufacturing capacity to 10.6 GW annually.
The new 1.15-million-sq-ft facility, located near SEG's second factory in Tomball, is expected to complete construction in March 2027, with commercial production of heterojunction technology (HJT) modules beginning in May 2027. SEG currently operates a 2-GW Houston facility and is opening a 4-GW Tomball plant in August 2026. The company is also evaluating U.S. sites for dedicated HJT cell manufacturing.

German Inheritance Tax Rules Seen as Obstacle to Solar Expansion
Germany's Association of Energy and Water Industries (BDEW) has warned that current inheritance tax rules put the country's solar expansion at risk and has proposed measures to address the issue. Under existing law, agricultural land leased for open-area solar installations loses its privileged status under inheritance and gift tax law. In some cases, the resulting tax burden can exceed total lease income over the entire lifetime of a solar park. BDEW is calling for legal clarity and proposing a specific "PV open-area exemption" in the Valuation Act, including a possible 50% assessment discount for temporarily used farmland.

Munich-based photovoltaic solutions provider Helios Solar AG plans to carry out an initial public offering on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange, targeting net proceeds of up to EUR 26.9 million (around USD 31.32 million) to support its expansion.

Kyon Energy to Build 146.5 MW Battery Storage Project in Germany

Kyon Energy has announced plans for a 146.5 MW/296 MWh battery energy storage system at the Mehringen substation in Lower Saxony, Germany. Construction is scheduled to begin in July or August 2026, with commissioning planned for October 2027, with the timeline largely determined by high-voltage transformer delivery times and required substation modifications. The project will comprise 65 containerized lithium iron phosphate battery units spread across a 3.3-hectare site. The Mehringen substation is a key regional grid node, and the storage system could power the entire Nienburg district for approximately 10 hours.

When landowners lease their agricultural land for open-area solar parks, that land loses its privileged status under inheritance and gift tax law — in some cases, the resulting tax burden can even exceed the total lease income over the entire lifetime of a solar park. BDEW is therefore calling for the introduction of a "PV open-area exemption" in the Valuation Act, which would provide a flat assessment discount of, for example, 50 percent for land temporarily used for photovoltaic purposes, so as not to further hinder the urgently needed expansion of solar energy.
